Get it in when you can fit it in exercise tip and self-care strategy:

Walk while you wait.

Our son has a 3-hour drumline practice Sunday evenings about a 30-min one way drive from our home.

It is a waste of time and gas to drop him off, go home, and come back to get him, so I wait.

In the past, I’d run errands or veg out on social media and binge-watch something (with a bag of cheese popcorn from RaceTrac or a mini blast from Sonic) while I waited in my car. Late that night, exhausted from the day, I drag thru a workout at home.

Now, I redeem this wait time with two actions:
1) I sit in the car and prayerfully plan the upcoming week, and
2) I walk laps around the parking lot. (I don’t know the neighborhood and there are no sidewalks so I stick to the lot for safety).

Our kids keep me ripping and running. Add work, home, and ministry tasks and I get overwhelmed too easily and too often.

The stillness - it creates margin for me to hear from God how to balance my priorities and responsibilities.

The movement - of course, it feels great to move - but it also clears and opens my mind. (A Stanford University study reveals that walking can improve one's creative output by up to 60%.)

I used to low-key dread this unpaid Uber driver task on Sunday evenings. With this shift, I look forward to it.
