For the 6th year in a row, Mississippi ranks as the state with the highest obesity rate – 34.9%. Louisiana is 2nd at 33.4%. Texas and Alabama are not far behind with obesity rates of 32.4% and 32.0% respectively.
Obesity kills. Related conditions include heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer. Obesity is preventable. Embracing a healthy and active lifestyle can reduce risks for these and other deadly and debilitating weight related conditions.
Taking a stand against obesity by taking a walk (or run)
This year, NBC Univeral Televistion Consumer Products partnered with former “The Biggest Loser” Contestants Jackie and Dan Evans and their company FitWorld, LLC to launch a series of RunWalk events ranging from 1k to half marathon distances. Dan and Jackie have been regularly running races and encouraging others to get and stay active since their weight loss on Series 5 of the show. I’ve had the opportunity to chat with them at a few events these last few years. Their love for people and passion to help people get and stay active is compelling.
