So, after 30 minutes of upper body hypertrophy strength training, Coach Jess called for 13 pace training intervals, finishing with sprints at our max. This was the back end (very hard and max pace intervals). #NotCute

A coaching client tool I use myself is recording workouts for feedback and progress tracking. Every once in a while, I share them here, hopefully to encourage others.

Watching this, I noticed how I listen to Jess’ coaching and talk back like she can hear me.
I noticed how I talk to myself.

In these few minutes I saw my stride shift, my foot strike lighten, my form adjust, and the surprise on my face as I did what I believed was beyond the active comfortability embraced at this age and stage of life.

Watching reminded me of the value of guidance.
Of being willing to push when it’s uncomfortable.
Of the power of encouraging words spoken out loud, even to yourself.

It reminded me that tired doesn’t always mean done.
It showed me how easy it is to live inside boundaries we place on ourselves, and how bomb it is to step past them.

So grateful I didn’t fly off the back of the treadmill at my max. 😬

I thank God for the ability and privilege to move, learn and stretch and grow - and as Coach Jess says to be a ’work in progress and a masterpiece at the same time!’

Note: Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the US and after menopause women’s risk of coronary heart disease rises sharply.

High intensity aerobic training improves cardiovascular health in postmenopausal women.
One study reported in Frontiers of Aging that caught my eye shows participants in a 8-week high intensity cardio training program (3x per week) saw an ~18% increase in VO₂ max and a ~5% decrease in fat mass. This level of change in just 8-weeks!

This year I deep dived into menopause wellness education. I’m learning a lot and strategically living it out.

Women the Lord blesses with age can spend more than a third of their lives in post-menopause, so it is important to understand how our bodies change and what supports our health. Excited to see where this leads…

Today is National Cheeseburger Day! 🎉🍔

The cheeseburger’s roots trace back to the 1920s when somebody decided to add cheese to a burger patty.

Not rocket science, but the idea took off. Americans devour approximately 50 billion burgers each year!

Let’s talk HEALTHY hacks to enjoy that cheeseburger without derailing your wellness goals:

1️⃣ Go lean: Opt for lean ground beef or try turkey or plant-based patties for a healthier base.

2️⃣ Veggie Boost: Load up on veggies like lettuce, tomatoes, grilled portobello mushrooms, roasted red peppers, and/or onions for flavor, texture variety, and added nutrients.

3️⃣ Thoughtful Cheese Choices: The cheese is the differentiating factor of the cheeseburger, so make it count. Choose a part-skim cheese or opt for a flavorful cheese like spicy Pepper Jack, smoky Gouda, tangy Feta, creamy Brie, or bold and savory Blue cheese. {The bolder the cheese, the less you need because a little goes a long way.}

4️⃣ Better Buns: Choose a whole grain or whole wheat bun for extra fiber, or skip the bun and enjoy your burger wrapped in lettuce.

5️⃣ Portion Control: Share with a friend or wrap half for later to avoid overindulging.
