What do I take forward from my family of origin?

That question sat at the root of the Church School lesson I taught Sunday from Genesis 26:23–33.

This exploration looked at Isaac. His movements, his moments with God, and the patterns that showed up in his life that also showed up in Abraham’s.

In Isaac’s life we saw blessing, favor, fear, deceit, provision and promise.
Much of it mirrored experiences of his father Abraham.

What about you and your life?

Are there behaviors, beliefs, or burdens that continue because they’ve never been addressed?
Are there blessings you’re walking in because of someone else’s faithfulness and obedience?

We considered how the genealogical research and knowledge of history (biological and spiritual) can shape us, and how obedience shifts what gets carried forward.

We also paused to reflect on where we’ve set up, stayed, or started digging.

If you missed the class or want to revisit the reflection, you can watch the full teaching here:

This lesson reminds us to look at what shaped us, what we’re carrying, and how we’re responding to God. It calls us to move with more awareness and be more intentional about what we continue.

I pray it helps see and serve God better, and that it is a blessing to you.
