NJ Blog - Seeing Myself as God Sees Me

The opening of “Imagine Me” by Kirk Franklin says:

“Thank You for allowing me to see myself the way You see me. Thank You.“
Seeing myself as God sees me.
I’m not there yet.
Knowing all there is to know about me.

What I’ve done and left undone.

The thoughts and things I don’t want to admit but hold tight to.
The harmful dysfunction I’ve been through, normalized and perpetrated, hate to think about and can’t forget.
The low down parts of my past that have not been lifted and repeatedly show up in my present.

God knows all of this – and still…
He forgives me. Keeps me. Uses me.
LOVES me.

I know what His Word says about this.

I believe it – and still…
I can’t comprehend it. Haven’t fully internalized it.
Don’t consistently walk in it.

Can you relate in anyway?

Tears flowing, this morning’s praise and prayer left ‘let go’ on my heart.

Take the lessons from losses.
Realize the purpose behind pains – and let go.

Don’t hold onto what God said is gone.

Refuse to give space to what blocks or distorts His view of me.
Displace it with grace and gratitude. Make margin for peace and joy.

I’m leaning into what this looks and feels like in my life.

More from Kirk’s song:

“In a world where nobody has to live afraid.
Because of your love, fear’s gone away.
Can you imagine me?
Letting go of the past.
Glad I have another chance.
My heart will dance ‘cause I don’t have to read that page again.
Imagine me, being free.
Trusting you totally.
Finally, I can imagine me.
I admit it was hard to see
You being in love with someone like me.
Finally, I can imagine me.”

Sending love, prayers and encouragement to those who like me are on this path of imagining.

Take care, God bless and be well.
