Check out this salad.  Looks delish – and it tasted better than it looks.  Hard to believe this came from a fast food drive thru.
If you have not yet enjoyed one – meet Wendy’s Apple Pecan Chicken Salad, part of their Garden Sensations® lineup.

Hungry and busy the other day, I swung in the Wendy’s drive thru to pick up my go-to cup of chili but wanted something with a crunch and decided to try this.  I can’t tell you how pleased I was to open the container and see this deliciousness.

The salad is made with a surprisingly varied  mix of greens; from Wendy’s website “iceberg,  green and red romaine, and a spring mix that can contain red & green oak, red & green leaf, lolla rosa, tango, spinach, mizuna arugula, tatsoi, red chard, and green chard.”  OK… Not sure all of that was in my container (I don’t know what a good bit of it is) but nonetheless, it was refreshing at a fast food restaurant to have crisp colorful greens instead of a container of the typically served limp or wet iceberg.  Next, crisp red and green apples, sweet dried cranberries, tangy blue cheese crumbles and moist hunks of grilled chicken, all beautifully assembled.  In the bag was a small package of sugar roasted pecans and a packet of pomegranate vinaigrette dressing.  I added the pecans and poured the whole packet of dressing, (it was only 60 calories), and the dish was so pretty, I had to take a picture.  Everything was fresh and the flavors balanced beautifully.  I really enjoy this kind of fruit, nut and cheese salad combination.

The half size salad was a bit small but satisfying as there was enough fat in the nuts and cheese to hold me. Nutritionally, the half sized salad comes in at 340 calories, 18 g fat (4.5 sat), 29 g carbohydrate, 19 g protein and 4 g fiber.  Cost $4.29 – great meal deal.

Go Wendy’s!
