“And they sang a new song, saying: ‘You are worthy…’” Revelation 5:9

I’m blessed to serve as Church School teacher fourth Sundays at New Hope Baptist Church. Last Sunday, following Holy Week ad Resurrection Sunday, we studied Revelation 5:1–10 under the theme Sing a New Song.

Revelation 5 reveals Jesus as the only one worthy to open the scroll — the only one worthy to fulfill God’s redemptive plan. We walked through the text, reflecting on the setting, the scroll, the weeping, the Lamb who was slain and now reigns and the response of those in John’s vision. “And they sang a new song…

We also examined our responses.

So often, our praise and worship centers on what we are going through.

Facing tomorrow. Enduring trials. Holding on. Because Jesus lives, we can walk through those moments with hope. AND God calls us beyond survival. Revelation says we have been made a kingdom and priests to serve our God. That promise and privileged positioning should shape how we live and how we praise.

Do I need to sing a new song? Or perhaps a remix…

If you weren’t able to join us, you can watch the full teaching on YouTube:

If this lesson spoke to you, I’d love to hear your reflection. Take time this week to reread Revelation 5. Sit with it. Let the text shape your praise and how you live.

My home church, New Hope Baptist Church livestreams Christian Education on Wednesdays at 6:30 pm CST and Sunday mornings at 9:45 am CST, followed by worship at 11:00 am CST on our Facebook page (facebook.com/newhopebr). I invite you to join us live or watch the replay, and pray that the teaching will be a blessing to you.
