Jamal Roberts won American Idol!
A 27-year-old physical education teacher and father of three from Meridian, Mississippi, Jamal is the first Black man to take the title since Ruben Studdard in 2003. His win came after the largest finale vote in the show’s history.
Known for his church roots and strong vocal ability, Roberts began singing at age 2 and was raised in a deeply faith-centered family.
He previously competed on BET’s Sunday Best in 2020, placing in the top three, and auditioned twice for American Idol before being selected.
This young man clearly has an anointed voice. He is also prepared and in position.
We saw him stand confident in who he is, what God gave him, and his priorities.
He gives God glory, shows up as a father to his kids, and a mentor to students.
Jamal shows a beautiful example of what it is like when a man of God stands in his purpose.
